Takeo province is a
province in the south of Cambodia. It is bordered to the west by
Kampot, northwest to Kompong Speu Province, in the north and east
Kandal province, and to the south with the international border of
Vietnam. Takeo province covers an area of 3,562.70 kilometers square.
The Capital or provincial town of Takeo is Daunkeo (formerly known as
Takeo), a small town of 39,186 people.
Takeo
province is always overlooked by foreign tourists but gets high
ratings from people in the country who travel to this province to
visit temples and many eco-tourism sites.
Takeo
is thought to be the birthplace of the Khmer civilization. Chinese
businessmen mentioned that the former Khmer kingdom was located in
Takeo, known as "Funan" and they said this was a
surrounding kingdom. The evidence of antique artifacts in Angkor
Borei has confirmed that this is the site of the Khmer Kingdom, since
the beginning of 400 BC. Among 24 provinces, Takeo province is one of
the oldest provinces in the history of Funan and Chenla. Takeo
province has 34 ancient temples that our ancestors left behind and is
the spirit of the Khmer people of that time and our country as well.
Currently, Takeo province has nine distinctive temples that relate to
history:
- The temple of Phnom Da was built in the 6th century in Angkor Borei.
- Bayangkou Temple is located on the top of Bayangkou Mountain, Kirivong District, Built in the 7th century.

Neang Kmav Temple: Built in the 10th century in the area of Samrong.

Chiso Temple: Built in the 11th century on the top of Chiso mountain in Samrong district.

Phnom Tamao: Built in the 11th century in Bati district.

Thmor Dos Temple: Built in the 11th century in Bati district.

Ta Prohm Tonle Bati Temple: Built in the 12th and early 13th centuries, it is located in Bati.

Yeay Pov Temple: Built in the 12th century in Bati district.

Chob Pol Temple: Located in Daunkeo town.
During
your trip to Takeo, visit the Chiso temple, the 11th-century temple
of the era. The Chiso temple was built on a mountain top surrounded
by rural landscapes. The stairs are 503 feet high, but the scenery of
the countryside is quite impressive. This ancient temple is active
again, where Buddhists practice pilgrimage during religious
festivals. The sculptures of the Indo-god can be seen on the library
towers. Beautifully made sandstone beams above the door and the only
carving that decorates the Thom's Temple door.
You
can enjoy boat trips along the river to visit archaeological museums
of Angkor Borei and then to another place of the ruins of Phnom Penh.
Tonle Bati is the favorite place of leisure for local people during
leisure time and is a pleasant place to enjoy Khmer food. . Near
Tonle Bati Temple is a large temple complex with an Angkorian-style
temple complex with a beautiful garden. Then there is Prusay Poi,
named after the mother of Ta Prohm and another historical temple
located near the Tonle Bati Lake.
Neang
Kmav temple is located in Samrong district. This was a temple built
of sandstone and bricks during the 10th century, but most of the
parts of the temple were destroyed. Wildlife Rescue Center at Ta Mo
Mountain has a total of 1200 hectares. It is set up to preserve rare
and rescued wildlife in the country. Eighty hectares of land are
stored as a zoo for visitors. There are many wildlife, many kinds of
animals in danger. The zoo is well maintained and is a popular
